GOD IS our Refuge and Strength [mighty and impenetrable to temptation], a very present and well-proved help in trouble – Ps 46:1
You are a hiding place for me; You, Lord, preserve me from trouble, You surround me with songs and shouts of deliverance – Ps 32:7
We may not fully understand the significance of this Psalm in today’s civilisation. However in those days and in the medieval times, there were cities of refuge where people could run for safety whenever there is danger, especially when an enemy invades. A typical example is Jericho, into which the inhabitants of the land ran when the Isrealites came. It was a place of refuge for the people but it couldn’t stand against the power of God. However, in its day Jericho would have stood against any invading army. These cities or fortresses as they came to be called in near-modern times, were the hope of safety for the citizens. This was the idea that Psalmist was trying to convey in the scriptures above. How I wish that every christian will understand the significance of this statement. GOD IS OUR REFUGE, OUR HIDING PLACE. Unlike Jericho, nothing can defeat God. We are eternally safe in Him. Paul stated this truth in another form as it relates to the new creature in Christ
….and your life is hid with Christ in God – Col 3:3
When we came to a new life in Christ, our life became inbedded in Christ. This brings to reality the truth professed by the Psalmist. Now, it is important that you bear this truth in mind and hold it in faith. Let it dominate your consciousness, that the eternal and almighty God is your refuge. This is the reason why God declared that
no weapon forged against you will prevail, and you will refute every tongue that accuses you. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and this is their vindication from me – Is 54:17
There is nothing that can shake a christian! Nothing, if he understands this truth. God is our refuge. Sickness, disease, death, poverty….nothing has power over the man who is in Christ. He is insured and protected by God! We should realise that we are one with Christ and that our life is hid in Him. Anything that cannot be associated with the life of Christ should on no account be associated with your life
How do we tap into this grace? We don’t need too, just accept it in faith. You are in Him already. Fill your consciousness with this truth. Let it dictate your thoughts, words and actions! Let it show in the manner you carry yourself. Whenever any challenge comes your way, do not fear. Look at it in the eye and laugh! Laugh because you know that you are standing at a point of advantage, and you can never lose! You are insured by God. Halleluyah!!!
Grace and mercy is with you!
