On my way to church on sunday, I saw a little boy crying after his mom, “mommy, where is my Ben 10?” I got to know he was crying for his toy “Ben 10” watch. As I walked on, I remembered my own childhood fantasies of becoming a superhero. I wanted to become like Spider-Man. For those of us adults who don’t know Ben 10, he is a kid with a kind of watch (The Ultimatrix) that enables him to change into different aliens with amazing abilities. While we may laugh at the thought, we all once had such fantasies and this fantasy has been engrained in man since the beginning of time. This is the origin of the greek myths we know of – Hercules, Achilles and other “superhuman” beings.
While Ben 10 and the greek myths are figments of our fantasies, in actuality, we are not very far from the truth. The truth is that the christian is some kind of ultimate “alien” with unimaginable powers available to Him. How did we come to this? The moment we give our lives to God, a transformation occurs
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new – 2 Cor 5:17
But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: who were born….of God John 1:12-13
We are not ordinary beings but supernatural beings, originated from God. Our Lord Jesus Christ showed gave of a preview of what we are capable of when He was here on earth. This man walked on water, commanded the weather, forced impossible chemical reactions (H2O to CH3CH2OH), and did many other supernatural stuff. And when he was leaving, he left this note,
“Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father – John 14:12
Now, He left us with a “device.” Instead of the Ultimatrix, which Ben uses to change into those super aliens, we have the Name of Jesus, which when activated unleashes a tremendous energy that subdues all enemies and suspends laws of the Universe. Up till now, we do not know the extent of the power available in the Name of Jesus.
All these belongs to us and we were enabled with this ability that we,
…..should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light – 1 Pet 2:9b
Friends, you can choose to be ordinary or extraordinary in this life. God has made all the provisions for us to live an extraordinary life. The choice is yours. However, if you believe and you are wiling to take on the challenge, then IT’S HERO TIME!
