Have You Upgraded For The Year?

Everywhere you go – bus stops, train stations, eateries – you will see people concentrating on a small piece of device about the size of their palm. Welcome to the world of smartphones. What makes smartphones versatile is their operating systems. We can now do so many amazing things on our mobile phones now. Smartphone makers regularly release upgrades of the operating system to bring new capabilities to smartphones, like the release of the iOS5 and the Android Ice Cream Sandwich. In fact, regular updates are vital to the market dominance by any particular OS. Interestingly, our life also works like that.

What Operating System?
We all run an operating system. Everyone starts with the basic pack but we need to upgrade and install applications on it by ourselves, and this is where we differ. Our mind is the operating system and our skills are the applications. If you will remain relevant in the world today, you need to constantly upgrade your mind and your skills. It says in bible

….”be transformed by the renewing of your minds”… Rom 12:2 (CEV)

Your mind is the key to your excellence this year. If you have all the hardware (hard work and brunt) but lack the right software, you will still perform poorly. If you have been wondering why things have not been different for you, take a moment to check what operating system you are running on. Does your operating system allow you to install apps? Is it fast? Is it compatible with the success network?

The Best Operating System
A right attitude is the best operating system you can run on your mind. You have to train yourself to remain positive and success minded in the face of current challenges. For some of us, this may mean a total upgrade of our minds, because we have spent years installing negative applications which bog down our speed. To upgrade our minds, we need to:

1. Uninstall negative thoughts. Make up your mind to release past pains, hurts and regrets. Forgive those that have wronged you in any way. Forgive yourself for your mistakes in the past.

2. Delete bad habits. Bad habits work against our mind. Some of these are worrying, anger, lust, jealousy, procrastination, gossiping, and the like. These are the main causes of slow speed and OS freeze.

3. Upgrade your mind. Upgrading your mind starts with a conscious decision that you will remain positive and optimistic no matter the situation. It starts with a conscious decision to change your pattern of thinking. It starts by reconditioning your mind to think new thoughts.

4. Install new thoughts. After all these, you need to start feeding your mind with new thoughts. This comes from the materials you read and the media you watch or listen to. Take care to avoid any thought that brings the old pattern. A good way to fill your mind with new thoughts is to read books, good books, books on self-development. The best book so far is the bible. You may want to cultivate the habit of reading a chapter of the book of proverbs a day. Your mind will be refreshed with new thoughts.

Finally
Nobody can live your life for you. You are the master of your own destiny. Decide today to upgrade your mind and you will be amazed at the possibilities available to you. If you do not have Jesus as your friend yet, friendship with Him is the best place to start.
